The Goondiwindi Photography Club consists of a group of amateur photographers with a passion for capturing still images on film (or more precisely these days on digital media!). The group meets regularly for themed “shoots”, for instruction and workshops and just to compare images and share advice. As members of the Photographic Society of Queensland, the club has access to some great resources, training and competitions. Get-togethers for the club are held every second month and are advertised in the Goondiwindi Argus Community Notices.
You don’t have to be a professional photographer to attend meetings or join the club… you don’t even have to have talent! Nor do you need a fancy camera or lots of equipment – a point-and-shoot camera is a great way to start. All you need is to enjoy taking photos and to take pleasure in meeting with others with the same interest, to learn together and hopefully create some shots for you to love.
A highlight for the year is the Art and Photography Show, held each year in May as part of the Goondiwindi Show. A high caliber of entries are received, with fantastic prize money up for grabs.
Photographic opportunities in the Border Rivers
The Border Rivers region has a wide variety of photographic opportunities. In the east of the region you will find magnificent granite boulders, wildflowers and stunning hilly scenery dotted with grazing sheep and cattle, old tobacco barns and other historic farm buildings. As you progress west, you will discover the big skies and spectacular sunsets that can only be appreciated from the vast flat plains. Expansive paddocks of wheat and cotton, big farm machinery in action and long straight roads are features to be captured.
The entire region provides a plethora of native plant and animal life and good opportunities to capture them on camera, with beautiful rivers, creeks and billabongs adding to the experience.
